The Golden Chain
One of the most-loved verses in the Bible, Romans 8:28, tells us that God works all things for the good of his children. But how can God deliver on that guarantee of good with so many bad things in this life that seem to threaten that promise? How can God bring us safely to our final destination? The answer is found in the fact that our salvation is secured by what William Perkins, a pastor from the 1500s, referred to as the "golden chain.” That golden chain in Romans 8:28-30 begins with God’s foreknowledge and ends with our glorification. That chain stretches all the way into eternity past before we were born, winds its way into the present as we are born again, and secures the future glorification that awaits us.
