The Plumb Line - Messages in Amos

There is a point in the book of Amos, where God shows the prophet a vision of a plumb line. This was a tool of measurement used to build a wall that stood straight and tall. The point was that God was holding up a plumb line to his chosen and loved people to show that they were not measuring up to the life to which he had called them. Rather than loving God, and walking in his ways, they were pursuing lives of materialism, injustice, and ease. God sent Amos to warn them of upcoming judgment but also to deliver a message of hope and restoration. Much of what Amos had to say to God‘s people is as relevant for us today as it was when he first spoke it. Amos still speaks to us today as he urges God‘s people, “seek the Lord and live!”
